Bio

Patrick & Henry Community College is proud to welcome Melvin Patterson as the Head Coach of the women’s basketball program, set to return for the 2025–2026 season. Patterson brings more than a decade of coaching experience across high school, club, and national showcase levels, along with a proven ability to develop student-athletes both athletically and academically.

Patterson began his career at Bassett High School, serving three years as JV Head Coach and Varsity Assistant. He then spent six years at Franklin County High School, where he held roles as JV Head Coach, Varsity Assistant, and later Head Girls Basketball Coach. Under his leadership, Franklin County posted multiple 13+ win seasons, earned two regional tournament berths, and maintained a team GPA of 3.34. Nine seniors graduated during his tenure, including four who went on to play collegiate basketball.

Most recently, Patterson spent two years at Carlisle School, helping guide the girls’ varsity basketball program to the 2023–24 VISAA Division III State Championship with a 25–11 overall record and a 7–1 mark in conference play. He also gained experience on the AAU circuit with 804 Team Loaded, coaching 15U and 17U teams on the Adidas Circuit. In addition, Patterson has served on the CP3 Camp Coaching Staff, contributing to the CP3 National Middle School Combine (2023 & 2024) and the CP3 Rising Stars National Camp (2024).

With a coaching background that blends championship experience, player development, and academic accountability, Patterson is committed to building a strong foundation for P&HCC women’s basketball as the program relaunches in fall 2025.
