Bio

Brian M. Henderson was named Patrick & Henry Community College’s Athletic Director on July 3, 2014. He also currently serves as the Associate Vice-President for Student Engagement and Inclusion and an adjunct professor at the college. Henderson arrived to P&HCC in 2012 as he gained the head women's basketball position. Within a years time, he was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director and Student Activities Coordinator. In addition to previously holding coaching positions at George Washington High School in Danville, VA, Petersburg High School, and Virginia State University, Henderson has also served in other roles such as a board member of both United Way of Henry County and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes amongst other positions outside of athletics. Currently, he is an active member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), a board member for the National Association of Two Year College Athletics Administrators (NATYCAA), Chair of P&HCC's Equity Alliance Response Team (EAR), member of the National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA) Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Council, and chair of the Virginia Community College System Atletics Peer Group (VCCS). Guided by his vision, Henderson has made an immediate – and lasting – impact on P&HCC Athletics. In addition to leading the department to success in competition, he reshaped the organization into a more efficient and diverse department; commissioned and executed renovations to Stone Hall Gymnasium and Martin Softball Field; designed and constructed a wrestling room and esports arena, implemented significant diversity and inclusion efforts for P&HCC Athletics, emphasized a stronger commitment to the program’s community service initiatives, and led the rebranding of P&H Athletics in the Fall of 2021.  In the past seven years under the leadership of Henderson, P&HCC has claimed 6 Region X Championships, 2 Region X Player of the Years, 9 Region X Coach of the Years, 140 All-Region X honors, 8 NJCAA All-American honors, and 6 NJCAA National Championship births. These accomplishments do not include the many student-athletes that have moved on to 4-year institutions with scholarships. Under Henderson, P&HCC has continued its focus on outreach to the local community. More than 130 Patriot student-athletes across all sports participate in combined efforts of more than 1,200 community service hours yearly. This doesn't include Henderson's personal hours committed to local programs like Gentleman By Choice and United Way.  Henderson earned his master’s degree in sports management in 2009. He gained his bachelor’s degree also in sports management in 2007 from Virginia State University in Petersburg, VA., where he also competed as a men’s basketball player. Henderson and his wife Tiera, also a Virginia State University graduate, have four children and reside in Greensboro, North Carolina.
