
Rachael Gooch Named NJCAA DIII Softball Player of the Week for Week 10
MARTINSVILLE, VA — Rachael Gooch, a sophomore from Virginia Beach, VA, has been named the NJCAA DIII Softball Player of the Week for Week 10. The 5'6" catcher/third baseman for Patrick & Henry Community College Softball delivered a game-winning performance that will go down in Patriots' history.
In a thrilling 3-2 victory over Surry Community College, Gooch stepped up in the bottom of the 7th inning with her team down by one run. With two outs and two strikes, the right-handed hitter launched a 300-foot walk-off home run, securing the win and sending the Patriots to a dramatic victory.
Along with her walk-off heroics, Gooch posted a stellar .500 batting average for the week, driving in 3 RBIs and hitting 1 home run in the series against Surry. Her all-around performance exemplifies the skill and determination that have made her a key player for the Lady Patriots.
Currently ranked #1 nationally for NJCAA DIII Softball, Gooch and the Lady Patriots boast an impressive 26-14 overall record and a perfect 4-0 in Region 10 DIII play.
Next up, the Lady Pats will face a top challenge in Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute, ranked #3 nationally. The doubleheader will take place at Martin Field on April 10, with games scheduled for 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM.
Rachael Gooch, who has been a standout force both offensively and defensively, continues to make her mark in the world of NJCAA softball. The Lady Patriots are looking to extend their strong season as they prepare for this exciting matchup.
