Kayla Bartley and Laila Rodriguez Earn National NJCAA Softball Honors

MARTINSVILLE, VA – The Patrick & Henry Community College (P&HCC) softball program continues to shine on the national stage, as Kayla Bartley and Laila Rodriguez have been recognized as the NJCAA Division III Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively.

Bartley, a freshman right-handed pitcher/third baseman from Covington, VA, put together a dominant performance in the circle, striking out 22 batters over 14.2 innings against nationally ranked NJCAA Division II opponents. Her precision and power helped the Patriots compete at a high level, proving she is one of the top pitchers in the country.

Meanwhile, Rodriguez, a sophomore shortstop from Virginia Beach, VA, was unstoppable at the plate and on the bases. She posted a .700 batting average, driving in five runs with two doubles and a triple. Adding to her impressive offensive performance, she was a menace on the basepaths, swiping six stolen bases over the week.

"These two young women embody the hard work, talent, and dedication we strive for at P&HCC," said P&HCC Athletic Director Brian Henderson. "To be recognized on a national level is a testament to their relentless effort and the strength of our program."

Head Coach Roger Campbell praised both players for their exceptional performances. "Kayla and Laila have been putting in the work day in and day out, and it's great to see them earn this recognition. Kayla was dominant in the circle, going toe-to-toe with some of the best hitters in the country, and Laila continues to be a spark plug for our offense. Their leadership and performance set the tone for our team moving forward."

The Patriots continue their season this week, looking to build on their success as they take on more top competition. Their next game will be on Friday, February 28 at CaroMont Health Park against Gordon State College.

Currently, the Patriots Softball team holds an overall record of 8-10.
