
Basketball Wins Big on Sophomore Night, Defeats Central International College 102-67
MARTINSVILLE, VA – The Patrick & Henry Community College Patriots celebrated Sophomore Night in style, delivering a dominant 102-67 victory over Central International College on Wednesday night.
Prior to the game, P&HCC honored its men's basketball and cheerleading sophomores, recognizing their contributions to the program. The following basketball players were celebrated and escorted by their families: #3 Kam Rodriguez, a 6'1 sophomore guard from Sumter, South Carolina; #4 Michael Broady, Jr., a 6'1 sophomore guard from Evans, Georgia; #12 Don'Vielle Sandidge, a 6'7 sophomore forward from Lynchburg, Virginia; and #13 Ian Goings, a 6'3 sophomore forward from Columbia, South Carolina.
Two sophomore cheerleaders, Ebony Bryan from Martinsville, Virginia, and Khailey Toney from Ridgeway, Virginia, were also recognized for their dedication to the program. Toney was additionally honored for her contributions to the Patriots' cross country team.
Head Coach Dan Milloy expressed his appreciation for his sophomore class, saying, "I am so thankful for these four young men. Words cannot express the hard work each of them put in each day. I am thankful to play a small part in their journey."
The Patriots, now 14-9 overall and 6-2 in Region 10 Division II play, showcased a balanced offensive attack in the win. Kam Rodriguez led the way with 24 points, scoring 11 in the first half and 13 in the second. Ian Goings and Nolan Prince, a 6'9 freshman center from Amissville, Virginia, each contributed 15 points. Aaron Coleman, a 6'4 freshman forward from Sumter, South Carolina, had a strong second half, finishing with 16 points after scoring six in the first. Don Sandidge added 10 points, while Michael Broady, Jr. played a key role in the Patriots' dominant effort.
Looking ahead, the Patriots now shift their focus to postseason play, as they will host the Region 10 Division II Tournament at Stone Hall this weekend. On Friday, February 21, the #4 Paul D. Camp Community College will face off against #5 Oxford College of Emory University. On Saturday, February 22, the #1 Sandhills Community College will take on the winner of Friday's game at 1:00 PM. The #2 P&HCC Patriots will play #3 Virginia Peninsula Community College at 3:30 PM. The winners of Saturday's games will meet in the Region 10 Division II Championship on Sunday, February 23, at 3:00 PM.
