P&HCC Softball's King Named All-American

MARTINSVILLE, VA - Patrick & Henry Community College (P&HCC) softball sophomore Danielle King has been named to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-America Second Team and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Second Team. King, of Patrick County, becomes P&HCC's first NJCAA All-America softball selection since Carley Schmidt in 2012, and the third in program history.

King was the steady bat of the Lady Pats lineup, providing a .468 batting average from the leadoff spot for P&H. Her batting average finished second to P&H's Morgan Strickland - also named to NFCA All-America First Team - while she sits top five in almost every offensive category. She was named P&H Outstanding Sophomore at the 10th Annual P&H Athletics Awards Banquet, while also garnering Academic All-Region 10 honors as well.

At the conclusion of the regular season, she was first in Region 10 DIII softball in runs (53), third in hits (59), second in doubles (17), third in triples (3), fourth in RBI's (40), and sixth in steals (12). With these numbers, King was named the Region 10 DIII Softball Player of the Year.

P&HCC finished the regular season with a 25-17 overall record, finishing at 7-5 in conference play. The Lady Pats won their opening game of the Region 10 DIII softball tournament 3-1 over Surry Community College before falling to eventual champion Caldwell and Surry in the rematch. The Lady Pats ended the season ranked number eight in the NJCAA DIII softball rankings.
