P&HCC Softball Captures NJCAA Region 10 DIII Tournament Title

MARTINSVILLE, VA - The No. 2 ranked Patrick & Henry Community College softball team defeated Caldwell Tech Community College 4-0 on Saturday, securing the program's first-ever NJCAA Region 10 DIII conference tournament title. 

The Lady Patriots, winners of seven consecutive contests, will now will host the winner of Region 12, Owens Community College (OH), in the Appalachian District Championship on May 10-11 at Martin Field on the campus of P&HCC. The winner of the district tournament will earn an automatic bid to the DIII National Tournament at Frost Stadium & Warner Park in Chattanooga, Tennessee on May 22-25.

In addition to P&HCC's postseason success, the Lady Patriots had an impressive seven players recognized on the All-Region 10 team. Sophomore Morgan Strickland earned both first and second team honors as an infielder and pitcher. Strickland finished the regular season hitting .477 with with 11 home runs and 55 RBI. In the circle, Strickland strung together a 16-9 record in 27 appearances with a team-low 3.03 ERA and tossed two complete games. The right-hander struck out 171 hitters in 164 innings of work and was also named the Region 10 Player of the Year.

Joining Strickland on the All-Region 10 first team squad was catcher Rachel Gooch, infielder Laila Rodriguez, outfielder Greenly Elliott and utility Tatumn Brim. On the second team, the Lady Patriots were represented by infielder Bailey Daeke and catcher/infielder Jaci Parham.

In his 10th season at the helm of the P&HCC softball program, head coach Robbi Campbell was named Region 10 Coach of the Year.
